5 Fun Things to Help You Get the Most from your final days of Summer

It’s almost the end of August and for many that means the end of summer. The Labour Day weekend, means Calgarians will be heading back to school and back to work.  But just because September starts, doesn’t mean summer has to stop. Here are five ideas to help make summer last a little bit longer….

  1. The Inglewood Night Market, which takes place every second Friday of the month from June to September, will host its final night on September 12th. The September market promises to be the biggest yet. With 2 blocks of live entertainment, food , arts and crafts, it’s a unique community event you won’t want to miss. The grand finale will feature El Pulpo Mecanicoand Just Dance on a giant screen with People’s Choice prizes for the best dancers.

  2. For one week each September, the Beakerhead Festival is a spectacle of mesmerizing events. Beakerhead turns the City of Calgary into a “giant laboratory”, allowing Calgarians to immerse themselves in engineered art, public performances, community challenges and pop-up presentations.

  3. For those looking for something a bit different, the ElectroDash at Canada Olympic Park, offers runners the opportunity to run an unforgettable 5km course. This party starts at 8:00pm and participants can expect neon lights, dance music and an incredibly fun after party. Each runner will get a t-shirt, race number, glow glasses, and a glow bracelet included in their race packet and all the Electro tunes your ears can handle.

  4. The annual Harvest Sale will take place at Heritage Park on September 7 and 8th from 9:30am – 5:30pm. Come early and bring your shopping bags, this market offers fresh fruit and veggies at turn of the century prices. Hundreds of volunteers donate their time and all money raised from the sale of the produce goes to help local charities like the Alberta Children's Hospital Foundation, the Calgary Community Kitchen Program and the Heritage Park Society.

  5. Some of our warmest days are at the end of August. If you’re home for the long weekend, take advantage of the City of Calgary’s outdoor pools , which are open till Labour Day. Located throughout the city, there a great way to keep cool while enjoying the final days of summer.
